Agroforestry

June 16, 17, and 18, 2023

What will you do?

In this course, you will learn the principles of successional agroforestry, also known as syntropic agriculture, which focuses on soil regeneration and generates a continuous life cycle of renewal.

From the stratum, ecological and plant succession, to organic matter, the path from simple to complex. You will also learn how to create a sowing and planting plan with vegetative succession in space and time. You will also learn the role of pruning as a process accelerator and the implementation of agroforestry.

This course will explore our origins and those of forests, and how they give us life.

We will share lessons learned with practical experiences for planning.

Where are we?

In Villa de Allende, west of Toluca, State of Mexico. To get there, the meeting point is Chapultepec Park in Polanco, Mexico City. A two-hour drive along the Mexico-Toluca Highway, enjoying beautiful scenery, is just the beginning of this experience.

Tips for a great experience

Tools

– Machete
– Pruning shears
– Small saw
– Gloves

Ideal clothing:

Clothes for rainy weather, with waterproof boots (preferably for walking on wet and muddy ground).

Don’t forget to bring:

Raincoat, windbreaker or poncho, hat or cap, swimsuit, and sunscreen.

The weather:

In Tierra Jiasú, it’s more cold than warm, with sunrises at 5°C and the rainy season. Therefore, we suggest packing comfortable, thermal, and quick-drying clothing. You may want to consider an extra change of clothes, as we don’t have a laundry service.

Other recommendations:

– You will find soap, shampoo, and body lotion in the cabins. If you wish to bring personal products, we ask that they be biodegradable so that water treatment continues its sustainable cycle.

– Bring any necessary medications. Being located on a mountain, access to the nearest community is approximately 30 minutes away.

– Don’t forget to bring a water bottle or thermos.

– You may bring artificial sweeteners for your own consumption.

– We use solar energy, so we ask that you do not bring high-power appliances such as a hairdryer, iron, vacuum cleaner, or electric blankets.

– Remember that we do not have a television, and access to Wi-Fi and telephone service from certain companies is limited.

– We do not have heating in the lagoon area.

– We will leave the cabin clean and ready for you, so cleaning and tidying during your stay is your responsibility.

This is a journey through nature that will stimulate your senses and your way of looking at the earth, and we want you to enjoy it in total freedom and self-awareness.
